About Eastbourne and the local area

Eastbourne, served by the A22, A27 and A259, is a town of some 90,000 inhabitants, about 70 miles south of London. It is situated on the coast under the lee of Beachy Head, where the rolling South Downs sweep down to the sea. (Beachy Head a beauty spot not to be missed).

Eastbourne is known as the sun trap of the South, and is considered by many to be one of the most attractive seaside towns on the South Coast.

The town has charm and character and boasts a seafront façade of buildings in the classic Victorian architecture designed by the then Duke of Devonshire the late 1850's. (These buildings originally built as private mansions, are now mainly attractive 3, 4 and 5 star hotels).

Eastbourne has arguably the finest seafront carpet gardens in the country, and has a three tiered promenade running from the Pier, (another attraction built in classic Victorian style), through the Art Deco styled Bandstand to the Western Lawns, ending in the front of the magnificent 5 star Grand Hotel.

The town has four Golf courses, a modern Marina with shops and restaurants, three theatres and excellent shopping facilities in the town centre, within easy walking distance from the sea front.

There are numerous places to visit such as Brighton, Hastings, Pevensey, Rye, Tunbridge Wells - the list is endless - all within a radius of 25 miles from the town. Closer to home Eastbourne is surrounded by the beautiful Sussex countryside which is a delight to walk and drive through.

All in all Eastbourne has a lot to offer and is well worth a visit.
