About Victoria Drive and Eastbourne Ladies Bowling Club
Victoria Drive and Eastbourne Ladies Bowling Club
There has been a flat
green bowling club in Victoria Drive, adjacent to The Drive Public House since
1931 when the Victoria Drive Bowling Club was formed, making it our 75th
Anniversary in year 2006. In 1932 the ladies formed Eastbourne Ladies Bowling
Club and in 2006 both clubs become a Joint Club Partnership with the new name
of Victoria Drive and Eastbourne Ladies Bowling Club. Our 100 - strong
membership continue to enjoy both ladies and men's matches together with mixed
matches.
We are a progressive club and are always looking for new ideas to
promote the image of our sport within today's society, for example in 2005 a
relaxed dress code for casual play was introduced to encourage members to bring
along their friends and relatives for a game of bowls.

host various rounds of the Eastbourne Open Bowls Tournament including the
semi-finals and finals in some years. There is spectator access and seating to
three sides of the green including the pavilion.

The New Pavilion was
completed in 1995 with the aid of a Lottery grant and members generosity and
hard work The pavilion consists of a large lounge area with seating for up to

Public House we will have our own bar facility. Separate large changing rooms

About Eastbourne
Eastbourne served by the A22, A27 and A259 is a town of some 90,000
inhabitants, about 70 - miles south of London and is situated on the coast
under the lee of Beachy Head where the rolling South Downs sweep down to the
sea.( Beachy Head a beauty spot not to be missed). Eastbourne, known as the sun
trap of the South, is considered by many to be one of the most attractive
seaside towns on the South Coast. The town has charm and character and boasts a
seafront façade of buildings in the classic Victorian architecture
designed by the then Duke of Devonshire the late 1850's. (These buildings
originally built as private mansions, are now mainly attractive, 3, 4 and 5
star hotels).
Eastbourne has arguably the finest seafront carpet gardens in
the country and has a three tiered promenade running from the Pier,(another
attraction built in classic Victorian style), through the Art Deco styled
Bandstand to the Western Lawns, ending in the front of the magnificent 5 star
Grand Hotel. The town has 4 - Golf courses, a modern Marina with shops and
restaurants, three Theatres and excellent shopping facilities in the town
centre within easy walking distance from sea front. There are numerous places
to visit such as Brighton, Hastings, Pevensey , Rye, Tunbridge Wells - the list
is endless - all within a radius of 25 - miles from the town. Closer to home
Eastbourne is surrounded by the beautiful Sussex countryside which is a delight
to walk and drive through. All in all Eastbourne has a lot to offer and is well
worth a visit.
